We are living in the darkest hour in human history so far. The science is clear and undisputed now: temperatures have risen as our greenhouse gas emissions have increased and are wreaking havoc on our planet... but it is going to get far, far worse. We are facing, as David Attenborough has put it: "the end of civilization." This is an academic way of saying that humankind -- billions of people -- will face unlivable conditions and will devolve into starvation, slaughter and suffering on a global scale. This is not a distant future - millions of people are dying now because of climate destruction.

The most recent IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) report has issued a "dire warning": that we have "a brief and rapidly closing window" to avoid global societal destruction. The report states that it is "now or never" to take drastic action. World-renowned scientist Professor Sir David King has told us that "what we do in the next [2-3] years will determine the future of humanity."

President Biden has failed to be the "climate change President." He's failed to keep many of his promises to take action on climate, and is trying to delude the public that things are being taken care of when they aren't. Biden must declare a climate state of emergency and begin a full scale World War II-like mobilization effort to reduce our emissions and transform our economy to save this country from collapse.

Declare Emergency is part of a global network of civil resistance groups who are aiming to force legislative change in 9+ western nations. Declare Emergency is demanding that President Biden and our government 1) Declare a Climate Emergency and 2) End all extraction on federal and indigenous land. Our method is to disrupt business as usual: to get the public and the media to confront our reality, and to force a government response. While these actions may be highly unpopular, we are following the lead of people who employed similar tactics such as the Suffragettes, Black Lives Matter activists, the AIDS-rights organization ACT UP, and others. Most of us today can rightly say that their methods were effective and necessary to get attention when millions preferred to ignore the issues, and to enforce change.

As UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has put it:

"Climate activists are sometimes depicted as dangerous radicals, but the truly dangerous radicals are the countries that are increasing the production of fossil fuels."

We are facing the destruction of all that we love, but we have a plan to get needed change. Come to a presentation to find out more.

“This is an emergency and for emergency situations, we need emergency action.”

Ban Ki-Moon, Former UN Secretary-General

"The climate emergency is our third world war. Our lives and civilization as we know it are at stake, just as they were in the Second World War."

Professor Joseph Stiglitz, Economist, recipient of the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences

“Based on sober scientific analysis, we are deeply within a climate emergency state but people are not aware of it.”

Professor Hans Schellnhuber, Founding Director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research

“There is sufficient evidence to draw the most fundamental of conclusions: now is the time to declare a state of planetary emergency. The point is not to admit defeat, but to match the risk with the necessary action to protect the global commons for our own future.”

Professor Johan Rockstrom, Director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research

Our Demand

We're facing social breakdown, and emissions continue to rise. We demand that President Biden hold a press conference, declare a formal state of climate emergency and begin make full use of his executive authority to save this country from collapse. Find out more here about why Biden must Declare Emergency, and what he can do immediately after.
